At approx 14:20 C-46 and S-4 responded to investigate a call of a phone line down across all lanes of US Rt. 22 close to exit 3. Upon arrival we found a approximately 3 inch in diameter cable caught on a tractor trailer and lying across east and west bound lanes. Traffic was stopped in both directions until it was determined to be an outdated phone cable consisting of thousands of copper phone lines. At approx. 22:30 R-4, E-4 and S-4 responded to the area of US Rt. 22 west bound lanes at the Follansbee exit for a motorcycle vs passenger vehicle accident. FFD units assisted with patient care and also close all lanes of 22 west bound and set up a LZ for State MedEvac. The patient was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. FFD units also provided lighting, cleaned debris from roadway and handled traffic for the BCSD during their investigation.
At approx. 15:30 E-4, T-4 and S-4 responded to a reported structure fire with flames showing from the side of a structure. FFD units found the exterior wall on side D was burning as a result of a shorted electrical cable. The cable was deenergized and the fire was extinguished. The interior wall was checked and there was no extension into the structure. The structures interior did sustain minor smoke damage. FFD units were assisted by HHFVD units E-8 and S-8.
At 15:52 station 4 was toned to investigate a report of lines down on the roadway on Archer Heights Road. Upon arrival C-46 advised dispatch that we did have a telephone pole down with lines attached and blocking the road. That portion of Archer Heights Road was shut down for several hours while the phone company set a new pole and transferred the lines to the new pole. Units on scene were Squad 4 and Chief 46.
At 5:40 the afternoon of May 10th FFD Chief 46 was notified that a person cleaning a residence at the lower end of Rose Street had received chemical burns when a bag he was moving had fallen and something inside the bag broke open and caused what appeared to be chemical burns to his arm, neck and face. He was treated at WMC and released. He had then returned to the residence located on Rose Street and called 911. Bob Fowler Brooke County EMA director was notified and had contacted Chief 46. Chie...
Station 4 was toned at 21:56 for a large fire approximately 300 feet in the woods behind 125 Mahans Lane. Upon arrival of Engine 4 it was confirmed to be a single story old abandoned structure approximately 20’ x 30’. Being that the structure was fully involved upon our arrival and only accessible by Utility 4 we decided to let the fire burn itself out, Engine 4, Squad 4 and Utility 4 stood by for an hour to make sure the fire did not extend beyond the original structure.  ...
At approximately 09:09 Stations 4 & 8 were toned for a possible electrical fire in a kitchen that was extinguished by the occupants. Upon E-4 arrival we found light smoke condition the fire was not out and had extended to the wall behind the kitchen cabinets and the duct work for the hood vent system. Engine 4 crew pulled a 1-3/4” pre-connect and extinguished the fire while the crew from Tower 4 and Engine 8 assisted with overhaul and venting the structure.
